Basic information about the TEN-T Programme
According to article 155 of the Treaty establishing the European Community, the European Community may support projects of “common interest”, which are implemented by member countries. The projects have been determined in the community regulations on the development of the Trans-European Network – Transport. The trans-European network comprises: the transport network (TEN-T), energy network (TEN-E) and telecommunications network (e-TEN).

The TEN-T Community Programme is:
  • An additional financial instrument in the field of transport, beside the Cohesion Fund and the European Regional Development Fund
  • An individual part of the European Union budget
  • A programme directed at all EU member countries.

Beneficiaries of the financing from the TEN-T budget can be both state entities and private entities that function in the area of public services.

Projects subsidised from the TEN-T budget should meet the following criteria:
  • Contribute to balanced development of transport systems in the whole Community,
  • Ensure the cohesion and inter-operability of trans-European transport system and its access,
  • Integrate all types of transport,
  • Contribute to environmental protection and increases in safety standards.

The Community financial support is allocated on the basis of a tender, to projects that implement the priority principles of the TEN-T development and whose application has been well prepared.
