Cargo

Cargo
The key function of the cargo terminal at Kraków Airport is shipment and storage of goods transported by aircrafts in the international and domestic trade.
The cargo facility of the area of 6,200 m2 is located in the southern-east part of Kraków Airport.

This area is divided into two zones:
  • "LAND SIDE" - delivery and receipt of goods through a manoeuvring square and unloading ramp (the access to this part is not restricted);
  • "AIR SIDE" - transport from the airport area (restricted access).

The surface of the manoeuvring squares and roads is suitable for traffic of high-tonnage vehicles. The cargo terminal is located only 400 metres from the A4 motorway; there is an easy access by a newly built road heading further to the passenger terminal.

The cargo terminal is a free-standing building consisting of two structures that reflect the basic functional division:
  • 8-metre-high one-storey main lounge with a mezzanine, with roofed ramps and a manoeuvring square;
  • 13-metre-high three-storey administrative part with a basement, connected to the main lounge.

The cargo terminal's main lounge fulfils key functions related to the trade of goods:
  • unloading ramp;
  • customs control zone and security control zone;
  • distribution and goods division area;
  • main storage;
  • special warehouses and rooms, veterinary inspection, security control;
  • rooms of the Border Veterinary Inspectorate;
  • auxiliary service facilities.
The administrative and office part includes:
  • customers service rooms;
  • offices of authorities and forwarding companies;
  • management and administration of Kraków-Balice International Airport Ltd.;
  • management and administration of the holding operator (WAS - KRK Ltd.);
  • rooms of the Customs Office;
  • rooms of the Border Guard;
  • social facilities;
  • technical facilities;
  • buffet.
In the administrative and office part there is a fully equipped conference room needed by teams working under the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe. Kraków Airport was chosen as an entrance/exit airport for inspection teams.

Its design allows for an extension of the warehouse to the west in connection with a rapid increase of the air transport of goods. The western wall of the warehouse is designed in such a way so as to enable its easy adjustment during such extension.

The facility is protected, among others, by industrial television, electronic access control and fire protection systems.
