Both of these events will take place at Kraków’s Congress Centre, but the Summer Jazz Festival will also hold concerts in other venues, including the cult, unique Piwnica pod Baranami.

Tempus fugit: On Time and Transience Time and transience – is there more beauty in this or terrifying turpism? The new exhibition at Krakow’s MCK proves that these two contradictory elements are practically inseparable. Tempus fugit is an extensive collection of illustrations dating from the 16th to the 19th century. It includes works by Giovanni Battista Piranesi and other artists. The collection is complemented by selected works by 20th-century Polish artists, including Roman Opałka. On the one hand, transience is presented to us in the classic figure of death as a skeleton, while on the other hand in numerous abstract forms. Arms and Sleepers The American duo Arms and Sleepers decided to celebrate its 10-year anniversary by doing a tour of Europe. This won’t be an average tour – the musicians will appear here not only as a DJ duo, but with an entire live band. This extremely experimental, unique musical mix which contains elements of ambient and trip-hop will resound in one of the most interesting new clubs in Kraków – Szpitalna 1. The unique character of the music performed by Arms & Sleepers will certainly suit the dark atmosphere of this place. Such a combination truly can’t be missed.

9. Kraków Film Music Festival The ninth edition of Kraków’s FMF is characterised, above all, by diversity. The festival begins with Scoring4Polański, a concert of the most famous works from Roman Polański’s films. During the concert alterFMF, four excellent composers (including Jóhann Jóhannsson) will present a combination of sounds on the border between electronic and contemporary music. Like every year, during the festival there will also be a film screening with live music – this time it will be Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. The 9th edition of FMF will conclude with a concert of music from Poland’s most famous video game, “The Witcher 3.”A New Branch of the National Museum At the end of April, Kraków’s National Museum will unveil its latest project. A modern exhibition pavilion will be dedicated to the life and work of Józef Czapski – a writer, painter and intellectual. Visitors will find, among other things, a replica of the artist’s room in Maisons-Laffitte, permanent and temporary exhibition rooms, a reading room and a café. The building’s facade is also extremely interesting – usually it will bear Czapski’s signature, but it will also serve as a screen for film projections. In honour of the pavilion’s grand opening, entrance will be free from the 23 to 26 of April.

5. international Czesław Miłosz Festival The Miłosz Festival sprang from the tradition of Meetings of the Poets of the East and the West organised in 1997 and 2000 by Miłosz and Wisława Szymborska. The name itself expresses at least one thing clearly: poets from all over the world come to this festival. From the USA, Europe and Asia – each with different ideas, each emerging from a slightly different culture. This year, the festival will mostly feature authors who combine poetry with prose, such as Stefan Hertmans, author of War and Turpentine, and the Canadian writer Michael Ondaatje, author of the famous novel The English Patient.Various Locations 9–12 June 2016 miloszfestival.pl

14. Miesiąc Fotografii “Crisis? What crisis?” ask the organisers of this year’s edition of Kraków’s Photomonth Festival. According to them, a crisis is not a temporary state but rather something permanent, an element of life which we encounter every day. During this festival, the highly awarded project “New Europe” by the famous British photographer Paul Graham will be presented. The festival will extend beyond museum walls thanks to the #Dysturb collective, which uses walls of buildings and advertising media to show Cracovians unusual “news” not usually found in newspapers. Games are leaving our homes and entering public space, becoming an interesting way of spending an evening out with friends. Are there places like this in Kraków? We recommend several of the most interesting spots!.
Hex The first place of this kind in Krakow and a symbol of urban gaming in this city. It’s filled with hundreds of board games, has a unique atmosphere and serves delicious craft beer. We must warn you about one thing, however – to play here in the evening you must reserve a table at least several days in advance. Select This is a lesser known but very interesting place on Kraków’s map. Nintendo fans meet here regularly with their portable consoles, organising parties called Małopolska StreetPass. For normal customers, there are consoles, board games, and nice people to meet. Does happiness require anything more than this? Cybermachina This place is closer to being a mainstream bar. Both Cracovian nightlife party animals and diehard video games fans come here. You can play games on consoles as well as board games at tables. There is scrimmage, FIFA and Guitar Hero – a fun rock music game featuring plastic instruments. Krakow Pinball Museum This is the newest place in Kraków for game fans. This time, not with consoles or board games, but a vast collection of pinball machines. We pay a single entrance fee and then can play as long as our soul desires. It’s worth visiting this “museum” regularly, since new machines are often added to the collection.
