The Iberian Peninsula was the most frequently chosen holiday destination from the #flyKRK network in July.
In July, Kraków Airport handled 553,175 passengers, which is over 65 thousand passengers more than in the same month last year, and recorded 4,193 air operations (total departures and arrivals) – a 5% increase compared to July 2016.
The Iberian Peninsula was the most frequently chosen holiday destination. Just like in June, the two new destinations – Porto and Valencia – enjoyed great interest. Passengers also planned their vacation in Barcelona, Malaga, Gran Canaria and Majorca. Over two thousand passengers have already used PLL LOT's connection to Chicago, introduced on 3 July.
By 31 July 2017, 3,262,633 passengers were handled at Kraków Airport – that is 464 thousand more than the same time in 2016 (an increase of 17%).
JULY – EVENTS
- New route to Chicago inaugurated, and the best water salute award
On 3 July 2017 PLL LOT launched a direct route between Kraków and Chicago – a much awaited connection among the citizens of Kraków, Małopolska and the whole southern Poland. It is estimated that every year over 90 thousand passengers travel between the two cities using connection flights. The Polish carrier launched the 9th long-haul route, which is also the 6th route to North America. Chicago is one of the 27 new destinations from Kraków Airport introduced in 2017. The traditional water salute, prepared by the fire fighters from the Kraków Airport Fire and Rescue Service to welcome the first flight to Chicago, has been presented with the Arch of Triumph certificate in a weekly competition organised by the portal anna.aero, Airline and Airport News & Analysis.
- Footbridge connecting a hotel with the terminal now open
From the beginning of July passengers staying at Hilton Garden Inn Kraków Airport can use a comfortable roofed footbridge to walk to the nearby train station, the multi-story car park and the terminal. This 13-metre long steel structure weighs over 32 tonnes and is situated 5 metres above the ground. The contractor of the footbridge is IDS-BUD S.A. from Warsaw.
When opening the connector between Hilton Garden Inn Kraków Airport and the passenger terminal, a group of preschoolers measured the distance between these two objects. The results were baffling: there are 79 “adult” steps between the hotel and the terminal, but only 70 seemingly small “preschooler” steps!
- Support for Volunteers – second edition
For the second time Kraków Airport has organised the Support for Volunteers grant competition for its employees. As a result, five new projects will soon be implemented: “Universal access to the automated external defibrillator (AED) in Rusocice” programme; a cloakroom and a classroom in the elementary school in Zabierzów will be adjusted to the needs of the youngest pupils, “There's no time to be bored” PE classes will be organised in Cianowice, the rooms in the Farm of Life will be refurbished for the foundation's charges, and the “Lotnik” sports club in Kryspinów will have its cloakroom and clubroom adapted to present the history of the club's formation.
The Support for Volunteers competition has been implemented since 2016 in line with the airport's CSR strategy, which involves support for employee volunteers. In the first edition of the competition, 6 projects were implemented, involving over 50 volunteers. The initiative was acknowledged in the Responsible Business in Poland. Good Practices 2016 report, issued by the Responsible Business Forum.
